Under the new regulatory framework, among the salespersons’ registration criteria is the requirement to pass the mandatory industry examination.
This is to ensure that new entrants to the real estate agency profession possess a basic level of competency and knowledge about the real estate agency industry and property related matters.
The RES Examination is your gateway to become a real estate salesperson.
Like it or not, you have to pass the examination in order to get your licence to start selling.
Candidates will need to attend and complete the RES Course conducted by a CEA Approved Course Provider before applying for the respective RES examination.
They will be issued with the Certificate of Completion at the end of RES course, subject to a minimum attendance rate of 75%.
Candidates are required to produce this Certificate of RES Course Completion when they register for the examination.
The RES examinations are administered by CEA’s appointed examination administrator, NTUC Learning Hub Pte Ltd.

Exam Format and Syllabus
Paper 1 and Paper 2 include:
Section A: 50 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) – 1 mark each
Section B: 15 MCQ with reference to 1 or 2 Case Studies – 2 marks each
Section C: 10 Fill in the Blank Short Answer Questions (SAQs) – 2 marks each
Duration: 2 ½ hours per paper
The RES Examination syllabus has been revised and will apply for May 2014 and subsequent RES Examinations.
The RES examination results are released 4 – 6 weeks after the examination is held. Exam Administrator will notify candidates individually of the results.
The results for July 2011 RES examination onwards will be in one of the following formats:
Pass Paper 1; Fail Paper 2 (P1 F2)
Fail Paper 1; Pass Paper 2 (F1 P2)
Candidates will be allowed to retake only their failed Paper from the August 2011 RES examination onwards.
There shall be no retrospective consideration of results from earlier examinations taken from Jan to Jun 2011.
